Support quality development through the psychomotor approach

The psychomotor milestones , for many parents, represent appointments that establish a measure of the child's development during periodic visits to the pediatrician. The division into stages of the psychomotor approach, in fact arbitrary, can nevertheless constitute a privileged channel for supporting autonomy : movement, from 0 to 3 years, represents the basis for the construction of affectivity, self- confidence, intelligence , creativity, language and socialization. This is why, starting from the 2nd-3rd month, it becomes essential to offer the baby a space on the ground where, through tripping and the first involuntary movements, he can begin to experience small imbalances and his own boundaries, perceiving the weight of his body and contact with the surface; even the belly down position , initially for a few moments at the time of the change, will represent an irreplaceable gym for the muscles of the neck, shoulders, abdomen and pelvis, all involved in the subsequent postural achievements. The adult , therefore, will not act as a dispenser of stimuli, but as a facilitator of experiences starting from the motor initiatives of the little one: a light touch on the butt to reach the position on the side and the desired object, an aid to return belly up at the first hint of fatigue and frustration. The space on the ground, which can be gradually expanded, will allow the parent to approach the child's play, let him experience closeness and distance, managing and supporting freedom of bodily expression and environmental limits with balance : each child, in fact, with their own perceptive style he will be put in the position to be able to formulate a move project and, through innumerable attempts, to carry it out. What an experience mom's hand, the support on a shoulder, abs strength and hop! I'm sitting! How exciting the bum rocking back and forth, dad's voice waiting for me with the ball. I free one hand, the opposite leg and hop! they crawl!

CARPET VS BOX

Having to make the house suitable for children, it is preferable to start setting up a space on the ground immediately , which can over time become a space for playing, reading or, when the changing table is uncomfortable, even the ideal place for a quick change. The carpet can be made up of assembled rubber tiles, so as to initially occupy a space in all the rooms where you spend more time, and, around 4-5 months, a larger surface (minimum 1.5x1.5 metres) in the day room. The advantages over the box? Experimenting closeness/distance towards the adult and objects, through the first experiences of separation and depth of space.
