Which car seat is suitable?

Choosing the right car seat is an important factor in ensuring your child's safety, and it's time to ask yourself: "Which car seat is right for you?" Car seats are divided into 4 groups, based on the weight and age of the child. Group 0 (0-13 kg) Baby egg It is the first car seat for transporting newborns in the car, very often requested when leaving the hospital. It also usually attaches to the modular system, which makes it a very practical product. It usually lacks reclining, to avoid exposing the head to shocks and mounts exclusively in the opposite direction of travel. If you want to keep the egg in the front seat of the car, you must deactivate the passenger seat airbag, if this is not possible, the egg must be moved to the rear seats. You stop using the egg before the child reaches 13kg or one year of age if:
  • It is necessary to travel by car for more than two consecutive hours (in fact the shape of the egg is not suitable for the formation of the back, therefore it is highly discouraged to exceed two hours both in the car and on a walk).
  • If the baby's head is flush with the top of the baby carrier
In these cases, you switch to a 0-18 kg car seat. Otherwise you switch to a 9-36 kg car seat. The 0+1 group (0-18 kg) Group 0+1 can be used from birth up to 4/5 years. It is mandatory, since it is much safer, to keep the child facing backwards (ie facing the car seat) until he is one year old. The rearward-facing position is extended up to 12 months for safety reasons, as the sternum bones, neck bones and collarbones have not yet fully formed before 12 months. Subsequently, the seat can be turned forward-facing up to 4/5 years. Group 1 / 2 / 3 (9-36 kg) This group of 9-36 kg car seats cannot actually be used when the effective weight of 9 kg is reached, since these car seats can only be fitted in the forward-facing direction. As we know, it would be preferable to reach about one year of age to use them. These car seats are used up to 12 years of age or 36 kg or one and a half meters in height. Group 2 / 3 (15-36 kg) The 2/3 group of car seats are approved from three years of age onwards, and are useful for children who have reached an adequate height, i.e. around 95 centimetres. This is to allow the seat belts to pass at the height of the child's shoulders and not above, otherwise the belt would end up on his face. Most of these seats allow you to separate the backrest and seat, so that it is possible later (usually when you reach six years of age) to use only the seat.
