PICKFISH The idea for this baby job was offered to me by my daughter, who has shown great interest in stones from an early age, preferably small and tiny, which she enjoys observing, manipulating, collecting and collecting in large quantities. Method Have your child collect some pebbles that he likes. Choose two: a larger rock (about the size of his fist), roughly circular in shape; one smaller and more elongated or semi-triangular in shape. They will be the body and caudal fin of the fish respectively. Put some glue on the small stone and attach it to the large one. With tempera and a brush, draw a white eye with a black pupil, a smiling mouth, a red cheek, and then alternating lines or polka dots for the belly and the tail. In a moment you will be able to create a simple and creative craft with your child, which it will stimulate his dexterity and imagination. Then, you can shape many other little animals : cats, dogs, teddy bears, rabbits, birds, there is no limit to your imagination. And you can arrange them on a shelf in his room, or use them as placeholders at the table for a snack with friends. DO WE GARDEN? Even if you don't have a garden, you can very well grow a small garden on the balcony and involve the children step by step. They will have a lot of fun and discover how magical nature can be, which can give life to plants, flowers and fruits from a simple seed. Method Take a series of capacious terracotta pots , a good sack of soil and a few different seeds (carrots, cherry tomatoes, peas, basil, parsley, beans…). Get the tools you need to plant and cultivate (preferably small, suitable for children): spade, short-handled mini rake, rounded tip mini pickaxe, watering can. Even a cloth or plastic apron will come in handy, so you don't have to wash your young farmers from head to toe. Children will be able to play with the earth, dig, sow and, in the following weeks and months, water the pots regularly and then observe the growth of the seedlings and finally see the first fruits appear. It will be an exciting educational experience , giving them a real insight into the changing seasons and the powers of mother nature. A BOUQUET FOR MOM Even if Mother's Day has just passed, an excellent idea for a nice home made gift is to make lots of paper flowers with our children, one of the most gratifying manual activities given the excellent results with little effort. Method Take 3 sheets of colored paper , A4 format, fold them in half and overlap them to obtain 6 layers; on the upper one draw a spiral and cut it out with scissors . At the outer edge of the spiral, apply a straw with scotch tape and start wrapping the strips of cut sheets around it. Gradually you will see the layers of the flower form (similar to a rose), which you will complete by fixing the other end to the straw with scotch tape. Your flower is ready. Continue with 3 other sheets of another color , and so on until you compose a colorful bouquet. Instead of thicker plain paper, you can use colored tissue paper : the effect will be more airy and elegant. Remember, however, that this material is more difficult to handle, especially for a child, and is likely to break easily. By Tea Guidi | Taken from Being Born a Mom
