Infant massage

Mani di mamma per il massaggio infantile

Massage helps the child become aware of his pattern
body, helps him coordinate movements and improves learning e
concentration . The circulatory, digestive, hormonal, immune and respiratory systems benefit from it.
Skin-to-skin contact represents a precious source of nourishment for the newborn: massaging him teaches us to get to know him in order to establish a profound dialogue with him and to relax him in a healthy way.

Infant massage: a mother massages her baby

The rhythmic movement of the parent's hands and the gestural ritual facilitate
the acquisition of the sleep-wake rhythm and the release of tension; with the mas-
assay increases the production of “beneficial” hormones (endorphins, oxyto-
cina and prolactin) while decreasing the levels of those related to stress
(ACTH, cortisol and norepinephrine).

In the first months of life this practice relieves the parents when the dreaded "gas colic" , teething , constipation, bloating and spasms occur, thanks to muscle relaxation; while growing , it helps with developmental pains .

In the West, the diffusion of infant massage began in the 1970s thanks to the American yoga and meditation instructor Vimala McClure , who blended traditional Indian techniques with elements of reflexology and Swedish massage . The author elaborates the benefits in 4 phases , still a reference for teaching today: stimulation, relief, relaxation and interaction .

The massage can be practiced from the first days of life, even if for prudence it is preferable to wait for the complete healing of the navel. Many structures provide courses starting from 6 months of the baby , for problems related to the possibility of guiding mothers and children at the same time; actually, yes
it may begin as early as a few days after birth , almost like animal licking on puppies around the genital area and chest, to help newborns acclimate outside of their mother's tummy.
Of course, a course away from home can be frightening, just when parents are trying to find the rhythm and manage "someone very important", to whom they want to give the utmost care and attention . So, if when you reach your destination the baby sleeps/cries/suckles at the breast and doesn't remotely think about getting a massage, frustration and discouragement invade mum and dad.

All solvable: there are realities that offer courses at home , avoiding the stress of going out and the control of the little one outside his "den" .
