Nerfs ? The answer to this question can be very very short or it can be argued for hours. Let's first look at the very short version of the answer to the question:
What are Nerfs ?
Nerfs are Toy Shotguns that shoot sponge darts thanks to a spring mechanism inside them. They are born as toy weapons and therefore tend to be harmless and painless.
However, you must pay attention to how you use them and not aim at the face, risking hitting the eyes. Well, if the short version was enough, we're at the end of the line. If, on the other hand, you want to deepen the question, we can move on to the slightly more complete version.
Nerfs: what are they
As mentioned before, Nerfs are toy weapons, which shoot sponge darts, thanks to a spring device inside them. The characteristic of nerfs is that the darts, despite being very light and made of a particular sponge (expanded material to be precise), still reach large distances. Furthermore, due to its shape, the dart is suitable for playing at home, being much more delicate than many other systems. Nerf guns have become very popular in recent years in young and innovative offices and work environments, where they are used for team building activities or simply for fun. However, we cannot limit ourselves to the word Nerf as there are different types of weapons with different characteristics and darts.
Existing types of Nerf
Let's see how to distinguish the different Nerfs in their categories or classes. For each nerf class there is a real arsenal of weapons that differ in shape, technical characteristics and range. In fact, Nerfs are not only rifles but also pistols, machine guns, Mega machine guns, shotguns and tactical weapons.
N-Strike
The
N-Strike category indicates classic Nerf darts. Some time ago you could find different types of N-Strikes such as Suction (suction cup darts), Whistler (they emit a whistle when fired) and Streamline (for magazine models). Then the N-Strike Elite were born, an evolution of the previous darts, which almost completely replaced the other existing models. N-Strike Elites make up the majority of Nerf rifles to date.
Mega
The Mega category refers to a series of Nerf guns that shoot darts almost identical to N-Strikes except in color, red, and size. In fact,
Nerf Mega darts are larger in size and measure almost two and a half centimeters (23 mm). The N-Strike Mega are characterized by increased firepower even if it tends to lose some range compared to the classic N-Strike.
Rival
Nerf Rivals are shotguns that are apparently the same as the classic N-strike. However, the Rival category shoots
plastic spheres of about 2 cm in diameter. The concept is almost the same even if this type of bullet makes the use of the rifle different. In fact, the Rivals Spheres have a different usability from the N-strikes due to the different weight and the different shape, thus having to diversify the way of aiming.
Super soakers
Nerf Super Soaker is the
Nerf water gun series. Unlike other Nerf guns, Super Soakers don't shoot darts, they shoot Water. This series is ideal for outdoor summer battles. Clearly this type of Nerf lends itself very well to parties and days out. Ideal for spending time watering friends on the hottest days. Don't underestimate this series, there are some really fun shotguns.
Dart Tags
Dart Tags are Nerf darts that are very similar to N-Strikes. The difference lies in the head of the dart which in the dart tag version has a velcro strip, so that it can be attached to special bibs. In fact, the
Dart Tag is very comfortable for Nerf battles with points, precisely because the harnesses have velcro in precise points of the body with an attached score.
Which and how many nerfs exist
Answering this question is very complex and I don't think it's possible to give a real answer. We can say that there are 5 different categories of Nerf, within which there are different weapons such as: rifles, pistols, machine guns. In addition to this there are many accessories such as extended magazines, automatic magazines, tripods and much more. The world of Nerf is always expanding thanks to special series such as those dedicated to the famous Fortnite for which special versions such as the rocket launcher have been created.
