For George, Peppa Pig's little brother, the first word was 'dinosaur', for his cousin Alex 'mud'; but these are cartoon amusements. Although, in fact, there is no single rule, scholars from all over the world seem to accord the supremacy of the first word pronounced by newborns to other words. A few years ago, for example, a Canadian research discovered that in most cases it is 'mom', but 'dad' also has a very good chance of excelling (and the same goes for English-speaking newborns, with the terms 'mom ' and 'dad'): this is because the baby's brain can more easily memorize words made up of repeating syllables.
