Curiosity in the kitchen: the okra

Curiosità in cucina: l'okra

Okra or okra is a plant native to tropical Africa. It is grown in hot countries: Asia, South America, Eastern Europe and Italy, especially in Sicily.

The vegetable is also known as 'lady's fingers', given its tapered appearance which recalls the hands of an aristocrat. In Africa it is used as a game by children (who use the sticky liquid contained in the fruit to have fun) and obviously as food.

Excellent fried, in batter, au gratin or stewed , okra has a delicate flavor reminiscent of asparagus.

Rich in folic acid and vitamins , it contains few calories.
