What is stepping reflex?

Cos’è lo stepping reflex?
Curiosity in pills. Also known as the automatic walking reflex, stepping is the neonatal reflex by which the baby, if supported under the armpits and with the feet resting on a flat surface, is able to hint at a sort of walk. It appears from the third day of life , disappears around the fourth month (but reappears when the baby is immersed in water) and seems to have a preparatory function with respect to the subsequent voluntary ambulation, which, however, asserts itself only many months later. But why does it disappear? Experts have put forward two hypotheses, namely that the development of the cerebral cortex or the weight gain of the legs, especially in the upper part, may inhibit the reflex.
