Single universal check: how it works

The INPS website reads: « The single and universal allowance is an economic support to families awarded for each dependent child up to the age of 21 (under certain conditions) and without age limits for disabled children. The amount due varies according to the economic condition of the family nucleus on the basis of the ISEE valid at the time of the application , taking into account the age and number of children as well as any situations of disability of the children». A significant novelty has therefore arrived from January 2022: a check defined as unique , since it is aimed at simplifying and at the same time strengthening interventions aimed at supporting parenting and the birth rate, and universal as it is guaranteed to a minimum extent to all families with dependent children , even in the absence of an ISEE or with an ISEE above the threshold of 40 thousand euros. The single and universal check is available to families in the following conditions:

for each dependent minor child and, for newborns, from the seventh month of pregnancy;
for each dependent adult child , up to the age of 21, provided that:

• attend a school or professional training course, or a degree course; • carries out an internship or work activity and has a total income of less than 8 thousand euros per year; • is registered as unemployed and looking for a job at the public employment services; • carry out the universal civil service;

for each dependent child with a disability, without age limits.

It should be emphasized that the check covers all categories of employees (both public and private), self-employed, retired, unemployed, etc. How much is mine?

How to request the single check

The amount is determined on the basis of the economic condition of the family nucleus , verified taking into account the valid ISEE . However, being a "universal" measure, the check can also be requested in the absence of an ISEE or with an ISEE above the threshold of 40 thousand euros. In this case, the minimum amounts of the Check established by law will be paid. To find out in advance the share due, there are also programs for online calculation. In general, this is a progressively modulated variable quota (ranging from a maximum of 175 euros per month for each minor child, with ISEE up to 15 thousand euros, to a minimum of 50 euros per month for each minor child in the absence of ISEE or with ISEE equal to or greater than 40 thousand euros). The amounts due for each child may be increased in the case of large households (for children after the second), mothers under the age of 21, households with four or more children, parents both with income from work, children with disabilities . When to apply? The application link has been available on the INPS website since January 2022. For applications submitted in January and February, the check was paid starting in March 2022; the related payments were made from 15 to 21 March 2022. For applications submitted by 30 June 2022 , the single and universal allowance is due with all arrears starting from March 2022. For applications submitted after 30 June , the grant starts from the month following the month of submission and is determined on the basis of the ISEE at the time of application. To know

For newborns starting from 1 March, the single and universal check is due from the seventh month of pregnancy .
With the entry into force of the single and universal allowance, the following birth support measures are repealed from March 2022:

• the bonus at birth or adoption (Mother Bonus Tomorrow); • allowance for families with at least three minor children; • family allowances for families with children and orphans; • the birth allowance (the so-called Baby Bonus); • tax deductions for children up to the age of 21.

The single allowance does not absorb or limit the amounts of the nursery school bonus . The Allowance is compatible with the use of any other cash measures in favor of dependent children disbursed by the Regions, by the autonomous Provinces of Trento and Bolzano and by local bodies and with the Citizenship Income .
The single and universal check does not contribute to the formation of the total income for IRPEF purposes.

How to request the ISEE?

Please note that for the presentation of the DSU to obtain the ISEE, it is possible to go to one of the intermediaries authorized to provide tax assistance (CAF), or online on the INPS website using SPID credentials, Electronic Identity Card or National Service Card, choosing the ISEE in ordinary or pre-compiled form.
